Thyroid Disorders
About 10% of women have some form of hypothyroidism — and I have been helping my patients manage it since I qualified in 2016.
The thyroid is one of the most important glands in the body. It controls the rate at which the body’s organs and systems function, affecting immunity, energy levels, circulation, sugar regulation, and overall growth, development and metabolism.
Hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland can’t make sufficient hormones to keep the body running smoothly. At first you may barely notice the symptoms — fatigue, weight gain — or simply put them down to getting older. As your metabolism continues to slow, more obvious signs and symptoms can develop.
Common symptoms
- Fatigue
- Poor memory or difficulty thinking
- Feeling the cold more than anyone else
- Finding it impossible to lose weight despite a careful diet and exercise
- Hair loss
- Mood swings or feeling down
- Poor sleep
- Problems with periods, fertility or menopause
- A sore or scratchy throat
My approach
Conventional medication means taking hormone supplements for life. Homeopathic treatment instead aims to stimulate better functioning of the thyroid gland itself, so it can produce hormones on its own — leading to better health more generally. I’ve been amazed at how quickly a patient can begin to feel more like their true self again on the right remedies. I often combine these with Homeobotanical herb blends, juicing, and vitamin and mineral support for the best results.
Part of getting there is understanding what might have triggered your condition — whether that’s a history on the contraceptive pill, mould toxicity, or something else — alongside how you’re feeling mentally and emotionally, not just physically. Because homeopathy is individualised medicine, those two pictures together are what guide me to the right remedy for you.
Common remedies
I prescribe a number of remedies as part of a patient’s healing journey, matched to their mental and emotional picture alongside their physical symptoms — from Thyroidinum (irritable, nervous, apprehensive) to Natrum Mur (grief, isolation, hard to cry in front of others) and Graphites (mentally sluggish, obstinate, anxious around your period).
