Treatment

Children’s Eczema

I’ve been successfully treating children’s eczema since I was a homeopathic student in 2014 — and with the right approach, a safe and long-lasting cure can be achieved.

Homeopathic treatment for eczema is very different from conventional medicine, where a doctor typically prescribes steroid cream, or antibiotics if the skin becomes infected. That approach often just moves the eczema from one area of the body to another, or leaves the skin weak and thin. In homeopathy we aim to push the pathology out of the body safely and naturally — but the individualised remedy has to be right for that child; what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for another.

What I look at

Not all eczema looks alike — some is dry and cracks the skin, some presents as red and weepy. I look closely at how the skin is presenting and explore what may have triggered it: an inherited factor, or certain food sensitivities. I’ll also want to know about:

As treatment progresses, parents often notice a change not just in their child’s skin but in their temperament too — better sleep, less fear of baths. Because homeopathy is holistic, everything tends to become more balanced, not just the original symptom they came in for.

Foods & supplements

The two main foods to avoid are gluten and dairy, along with sugar, citrus fruits and tomatoes. Omega 3 fatty acids, probiotics, digestive enzymes, and vitamins A, B and E, zinc and magnesium can all help support the skin. I often prescribe a Homeobotanical skin blend — organ-specific herb blends prepared homeopathically — alongside constitutional treatment.

Common remedies

Remedies I reach for include Sulphur (dry, itchy skin, worse for warmth and water), Carcinosin (tidy, affectionate, loves animals and music), Graphites (cracked skin with fluid, low self-esteem, very precise) and Psorinum (itchy, crusty eruptions, worse in winter, restless).
